Multi-Cloud Analytics Strategy

Now we enter platform sovereignty.

Common setup:

  • GCP → BigQuery

  • AWS → S3 + Snowflake or EMR

  • Azure → Synapse / ADLS

? Why Multi-Cloud Happens

  • M&A

  • Regulatory region restrictions

  • Vendor leverage strategy

  • Business unit autonomy

? Three Patterns

1️⃣ Federated Model

Each cloud runs its own warehouse.

Cross-cloud reporting via:

  • Replicated aggregates

  • API layer

  • BI tool federation

Best for regulatory isolation.

2️⃣ Centralized Analytics Cloud

All raw data replicated to one primary cloud.

Pros:

  • Simpler

  • Lower complexity

Cons:

  • Cross-cloud egress costs

  • Political friction

3️⃣ Mesh Architecture (Modern Pattern)

Each domain:

  • Owns its storage

  • Publishes curated data products

  • Uses open table formats

Shared metadata layer connects everything.

This is closest to Data Mesh.

? Hard Truth

Cross-cloud joins at 50PB scale are financially suicidal.

Move aggregates, not raw data.
